Understanding Online Roulette Inside Bets

Online Roulette is one of the most popular table games at any casino, as it is fast, fun and easy to play. But, while the majority of players have a basic knowledge of the simpler Outside bets, few understand the intricacies of the Inside options and the associated payouts or risks involved.

Unlike Outside bets that have a much higher probability of winning and a lower payout, Inside bets have a low win probability, and subsequently a much higher payout. You could call these high-risk, high-reward options.

It is advisable that novices start with Outside wagers, as they are easier to understand and have a slightly better chance of winning. A good place to begin would be with red/black, odd/evens, high/low or dozens. Anyone wanting a riskier approach with a higher payout potential can move to Inside betting.

The term “Inside” refers to the fact that wagers are placed on the inner section of the table, on the actual numbers themselves. Lets take a look at the options available:

Straight Up

While the majority of Inside bets are actually multi-bets, the one and only single option is known as a straight up bet. This one is fairly easy to understand and simply involves putting money down on 1 of the 36 numbers. In European Roulette online, this can include betting on the zero.

The payout for a straight up is 35:1 although it has the lowest probability of any option at the table. To place one of these, simply click on the virtual chips and place the chip on the number you want to put money on.

Another popular choice is the split. As the name suggests, this is wager on 2 adjacent numbers on the table. This can include any 2 adjacent numbers such as 2 and 3, 10 and 11, 23 and 24, 34 and 35, or any other 2 linked numbers. Compared to the straight up, you are doubling your chances of a win. Subsequently, the payouts are lower. With splits, the payouts are decreased to 17:1. To place a split, put the chip in the line between the 2 numbers so that it sits between them.

A street bet is a kind of add-on to the split, in that you are adding a third number. Sometimes referred to as a horizontal line bet in online Roulette, this is where you place a wager on 3 numbers in the same line going horizontally on the table.

For example, a street bet can be placed on the numbers 1,2 and 3, or 13, 14 and 15 or any one of the lined numbers up to 34, 35 and 36. There are a total of 12 streets available which means your chances of winning are just below 12:1. Subsequently the payouts are 11:1.

Corner bets take the multi option one step further by adding a fourth number into the mix. This is achieved by placing the chip on the centre of a line joining 4 numbers.

For example, a corner can be placed on 1, 2, 4 and 5 or 17, 18, 20 and 21 or any other block of 4 numbers that share a centre line. Having a fourth number in the mix increases the chances of winning yet again, which makes the payouts decrease to 8:1.

Six Line

Six line bets have the lowest payouts of all the Inside online Roulette wagers. As the name suggests, this is where you are betting on 6 numbers in 2 adjacent horizontal rows. To go for a six line you have to place your chip in the line between the 2 rows at the bottom of the relevant area on the table.

For example, you can place your chip between the 4 and 7, the 16 and 19 or the 31 and 34. In the case of the 4 and 7, you are wagering on all 6 numbers from 4 through to 9. The payouts for this type are 6:1.

When playing European Roulette online, there is an additional Inside bet that is called the basket. This involves putting money on the zero, along with the first 3 numbers. To place this, you must put the chip in the line between the zero and the first set of numbers. What this means is that you are predicting that the ball will either land on the zero, the 1, the 2 or the 3. The payouts for a basket wager are 8:1.

Trios are similar to basket wagers in that they also involve betting on the zero. In this case, you are cutting out one of the first 3 numbers and either putting money on the 1 and 2 with the zero or the 2 and 3 with the zero. To get in on the action, simply line up the chip between the lines of the first 2 numbers and the zero. The payouts for trios are 11:1.
