This week has seen a big new development for the mobile gaming industry from two of gambling’s most prolific players. Premium casino software provider International Game Technology (IGT) and accommodation behemoth MGM Resorts International have announced that they have been approved to begin offering mobile game solutions in the US state of Nevada.
The two firms have been granted permission to offer gaming services from the local Nevada Gambling Control Commission, which governs both land-based and online gambling activities for the state. IGT and MGM Resorts will not be able to offer their PlaySpot mobile sports betting platform throughout the state, which is also home to the global capital of gambling, Las Vegas.
PlaySpot is a new solution for MGM’s proprietary playMGM app, which has been optimised for various Apple iOS and Android versions. The app is MGM Resorts’ very first mobile betting product, and is also IGT’s first sports betting product to be approved for use in the USA.
The new gaming and betting product will enable any players who hold a pre-existing MGM M Life Rewards card to log in and play. M Life members can also deposit and withdraw mobile betting funds at any of MGM’s casino and resort properties in the state. At present, there are 10 MGM Resorts Race and Sports Books on the Las Vegas Strip at which players can deposit.
The announcement of approval has come after a trial period for the mobile betting app, in which the Nevada Gambling Control Commission completed rigorous tests to ensure that the product met their specific criteria.
Players in Nevada will now be able to access the app and all of its functions, which include worldwide digital deposits and withdrawals using a playMGM prepaid card service. The app also uses Trend Cloud technology that offers a personalised live selection of bets to appeal to each player individually, and Dynamic Parlays – the ability for app users to build their own bet combinations using real-time price updates.
Lovell Walker, the MGM Resorts Executive Director of Interactive Gaming Development, has commented on the launch of the new mobile product, noting that her company worked closely alongside IGT to develop PlaySpot. The app, Walker said, delivers an ‘unrivalled’ user experience, with M Life Rewards members able to bet on sports in Nevada from practically any location.
Matteo Monteverdi, the Senior VP of Global Product Marketing at IGT, also noted that PlaySpot will bring sports betting up to speed with the mobile gaming trend by delivering a new and improved player experience. The product will also assist MGM Resorts in connecting with their players on an app that they use on a daily basis.
